Our History

In 1959, Dr Tony Medland established his practice in the richly historical suburb of Annerley.

The A J Medland dental practice was located in the old timber arcade in the thriving Annerley shopping strip known to locals as ‘the Junction’. The Junction referred to the intersection of Ipswich and Annerley Roads. When the practice started there were trams whizzing down Ipswich Road, the shopping centre boasted three supermarkets, five banks, two draperies and up the road was ‘Lunns for Buns’ Cake Shop (of Over the Top with Jim fame). Just round the corner was a stately home built in the 1900’s, it saw many wedding proposals and functions after it was converted to the Clansman Restaurant in the 70’s.

Over the years our practice has grown steadily with our continuous commitment to patient care and attention. It became necessary to upgrade the facilities and expand the on-site laboratory so a move was made from Annerley Arcade to the current site in 1980. In 1987 the practice was devastated when a fire destroyed the interior of the building. A huge effort was made to repair the damage and the building was rebuilt and remodeled in a period of four months.

Another big change took place in 2007 when our existing building was renovated to accommodate the hygiene department.

As Tony Medland commenced winding down to retirement he invited some long-term employees to become partners. The business has been a partnership since 2001 and is jointly owned by Fiona Lillicrap, Andrew Paddison, Sarah Kam, Fred Haagsma and David Oates. Tony Medland retired in 2004 and is living in northern New South Wales on beautiful acreage in the hinterland behind Byron Bay, where he grows fruit, and looks after his chooks.

We have always placed our patients and employees at the centre of our business and we care for each other like family. In addition we maintain the highest standards in dental excellence which is why many of our patients have been visiting us since those early years.

We look forward to caring for your dental needs for many years to come.
